to Award the Cardinal von Galen Award at Upcoming Conference

Front Royal, VA – At the Human Life International conference this weekend in Philadelphia, Fr. Tom Euteneuer, HLI President, will present the first Cardinal von Galen Award to a pro-life leader who has exhibited extraordinary heroism and integrity in the battle to protect unborn children. The award is named after Clemens August von Galen, the bishop of Muenster (Westphalia, Germany) during the Nazi regime, who risked his own life to make public interventions and sermons exposing the Nazi euthanasia program which was clandestinely murdering German citizens who were considered “unworthy of life”. The award is the first of its kind to be given to a pro-life leader. The recipient’s identity will not be revealed until the Saturday night banquet where Fr. Euteneuer will personally present the award and read a description of the accomplishments of both Cardinal von Galen and the recipient.
“We are engaged in a war for the soul of our nation,” stated Fr. Euteneuer whose family came from the Westphalia, Germany province over one hundred years ago. “Cardinal von Galen was known as the ‘Lion of Muenster’ because of his enormous moral courage in the face of the anti-life and anti-Christian forces of his own day. He is a reminder that we must never give in to the godlessness of any age, especially today when the current regime is killing innocent children through abortion.”
HLI bestows this award
in recognition not only of achievement in the pro-life arena, but even
more for the undaunted courage that a pro-life leader exhibits in the
face of evil. The recipient must be a person with the strength of conviction
and purity of conscience that Cardinal von Galen exhibited in his fight
against Hitler. The award, while given only to one pro-life leader, is
dedicated to all the conscientious men and women who stand fast for what
is right and pay the price for their convictions.
